This post is a long time coming- a review of my favourite pizza place in Omaha, Pitch. The trendy restaurant is located on Dundee’s main street, and is the brain child of Willy Theisen, who casually got his start as the founder of Godfather’s Pizza. Pitch is about as different to Godfather’s as it gets- focusing on coal-fired pizzas, craft cocktails and an ambiance that is one of the best in Omaha. Their craft cocktails rotate occasionally, and are always delicious and well thought out (and nice and strong!). Starters at Pitch hold their own- the truffle fries are thin, crispy and not too overwhelmed by truffle oil- a common problem at other restaurants, and the creamy tuscan beans would be a hit with a little more seasoning. And then there are the pizzas…my favourite at Pitch is the classic Margherita- the balance of the fresh mozzarella, delicious tomato sauce and crispy on the outside/soft on the inside crust is about as close to what we had in Italy as anything. My more carnivorous friends also enjoy the Meatball Pie- topped with Calabrese meatballs and sauce, this heavy hitter earns rave reviews every time. The Quattro and Thai Pies have also been recent hits. While in the past the service at Pitch was deemed spotty by some (yelpers, I’m looking at you), it has been undeniably on point in the past several months. The waiters and bar staff are friendly and greet customers familiarly, taking the time to introduce themselves and learn the names of their customers as well. Between the delicious drinks, awesome service, fun ambiance and food that I crave weekly, Pitch is a no brainer for anyone who finds themselves in Omaha.
